What is cultural economy?

Outputs that serve at least in part the purposes of self-edification, entertainment, self affirmation … (Alan Scott the cultural economy of Paris)

Characterized by small companies networked – with increasing penetration by big companies. Local labour markets – a “haven for artists”. Increasingly diverse buyer markets.

What is happening in creative and cultural economic development?

A broad interpretation of creativity – marries technology, specific business expertise and entrepreneurships, and environment and culture (the creative Tempere project tempere Finland)

Creative Entrepreneur Development – helping to develop business skills, industry leadership and market growth among professionals in the creative industries (British Council international creative entrepreneur program)

Ubiquitous Learning -– a wired society, development of learning in all community institutions and functionality of those institutions (university of Illinois new learning)

Creative clustering – mapping of urban areas to determine cultural and creative assets and assessing the cost/benefit of cluster development (Artscape Toronto)

Measuring the value of culture – putting a value on culture - contingent evaluation – (Patrimoine Canada has studies – Stan Rogers fest in Nova Scotia)

Levers the community and cultural centre, centre de la paix, soupcon culinary school....

Wakefield World City – A program of linkages between citizens of LaPêche and the world. Levers the sister city project, the language school, the growing two-way arts and entertainment traffic....
