From Rodger Chenoweth
Trails ... Local transportation to make the village an actual village as opposed to a drive through. To me this looks like TRAILS... things cars can't drive on. Much like the historical trail system in England where people could travel from village to village on foot or horseback.
In summer trails would allow the greater community to congregate and socialize without driving as much... walk, bike, even ride a horse into town. In winter there could be an allowance for snowmobile traffic, perhaps even horse drawn sleds. So locals could get into town that way.
There already is such a good network of trails, let's formalize them, connect them with the Gatineau park trails and plan to extend them to Alcove, Edelweiss, Masham and even beyond.
Local food production and diversity.
Perhaps it's idyllic, but wouldn't it be the cat's meow if you could get almost everything you eat at home from the local community? I suppose it's already the case depending on what you eat. But in terms of staples... I'd love to see a planning committee put together a list of needs for the local community in terms of fundamental food production, and have incentives for locals to adopt those services, to encourage local families and farms to produce what the region really needs and wants. Every household could become a small scale producer specializing in whatever they wish. There could be extra incentives for highly valued and highly needed products like ORGANIC produce.
Imagine... John grows snap peas, Jill and Michael grow tomatoes and apples, Chris and Alison grow hardy wheat and oats... anything is possible.
I would love to grow food for my community, and I would adore knowing all the people who grow my food. Or those who directly import items such as coffee, chocolate, and other exotics.

I want to add my support to Rodger's post on trails. We live about 5 kms from Wakefield and there's almost a complete trail into town (that runs partly through the Gatineau Park), but it's not maintained by anyone. The highway in is too dangerous for foot or bike, but the trail is beautiful. Ski, skidoo, dog-sled, bike, foot, horse—it would all be great. How can we do this?
